Find aircraft and the ISS near a location

Choose a town or use your browser’s location to list connected aircraft and the ISS within 250 nautical miles (about 463 km), ordered by ground distance. This is a nearby-position finder; it does not determine what is visible directly overhead.

How to check nearby positions

  • Choose Use my location and allow the browser request, or search for a town and select a result.
  • Read the ground-distance list and the source timestamps. Up to 30 nearby records are shown.
  • Select an object to open its position on the map. Local weather, when available, comes from Open-Meteo.

Ground distance is not sky visibility

Distance is calculated between your place and the object’s latitude and longitude on Earth. It is not slant range, elevation or a viewing direction. An object within 250 nautical miles (about 463 km) may be below your horizon or impossible to see. The tool does not calculate ISS passes, illumination, visibility windows or a full satellite catalog.

Coverage and location privacy

Choosing a place requests aircraft within 250 nautical miles of coordinates rounded to 0.5°. The list uses distance from the chosen place, so the rounded query circle and receiver coverage can leave gaps near its edge. ISS position comes from Where the ISS at?. A blank nearby list can mean limited coverage or unavailable data. Browser location is requested only when you choose the location button. Place search text and coordinates used for weather are sent to Open-Meteo; see Privacy for the external-service boundary.

Questions about this tool

Why is the nearby list empty?

There may be no connected records within the 250-nautical-mile distance filter, or a source may be unavailable. Aircraft coverage is regional. An empty list does not prove that no aircraft are nearby.

Can I use this to see the ISS tonight?

The tool shows the latest available ISS position and approximate ground distance. It does not predict a visible pass or tell you where to look in the sky.
